Diasporic Hebrew. A Coversation with Tal Hever-Chybowski

Hebrew has ever been a language in flux, in negotiation. It is commonplace to think that Hebrew was the language of the Zionists, whereas Yiddish was that of the Bund. The issue is however more complex, and its history longer. Hebrew has always been spoken and written, at least for the past three hundred years. The Hassidic movement of Eastern Europe made use of Hebrew, and so did the Haskala movement, in Germany, Galicia and Russia.
